Editorial Policies

Aim and Scope

The main tasks of the journal are: generalization of scientific achievements in the field of human anatomy; cell biology; pathological anatomy; increase the scientific qualifications of researchers-morphologists.

The scientific concept of the publication assumes the publication of modern achievements in the field of morphology, the results of domestic and foreign scientific research.

Researchers-morphologists, teachers of morphological departments of Russian and foreign higher educational institutions, as well as other specialists whose research work is related with human anatomy, cell biology, cytology, histology, pathological anatomy are invited To the publication in the journal.

The journal highlights the fundamental and applied aspects of morphogenesis, adaptation and regeneration in norm and under various pathological conditions.

The editorial board accepts original articles, brief reports, methodological articles, literary reviews, discussion articles, reviews of scientific and educational publications, brief reports on scientific events, letters to the editors.

The section “Chronicle” covers events taking place in the scientific environment of domestic and foreign morphologists.

Open Access Policy

"Journal of Anatomy and Histopathology"  is an open access journal. All articles are made freely available to readers immediatly upon publication.

Our open access policy is in accordance with the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) definition - it means that articles have free availability on the public internet, permitting any users to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of these articles, crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without financial, legal, or technical barriers other than those inseparable from gaining access to the internet itself.

Peer-Review

The editors accept manuscripts for consideration, drawn up in accordance with the rules, placed on the official website of the journal «Journal of Anatomy and Histopathology».

All scientific articles, submitted to the editorial board, are subject to mandatory review.

The members of Editorial Staff and Editorial Boars - specialists in the field of science, relevant topics of the manuscript, are conducted to the review.  Co-authors of the article as well as collaborators of the units, where the study was carried out can not be reviewers.

The procedure for review of manuscripts held in confidence. Information about the reviewer of manuscripts is not reportedfor authors.

The review should include a qualified analysis of the article, its objective assessment and based recommendations.

The reviewer is necessary to address the following questions:

1.Accordance of the article for topics and journal's profile.

2.Compliance with the article title and its contents.

3.Compliance of article structure the statutory requirements (main sections of the article; the title of the article in Russian and English languages, annotation, keywords; references, information about the authors);

4.General characteristics and assessment of the content of the article (relevance and novelty of the research, scientific and methodological level, the accuracy and validity of the conclusions, scientific and practical significance);

5.The concretization of the positive aspects as well as  drawbacks of the article, recommendations to authors for making corrections and additions to the article;

6.Finally, to make a recommendation on appropriateness of publishing the manuscript, necessity of its processing or rejection;

7.In the case of negative review arguments should be provided for rejection of the manuscript.

The surname, name and patronymic, degree, academic status, place of work, current position, contact details (postal address, e-mail, phone) of the reviewer, date of drawing up reviews must be specified.

Reviewer must submit a review of the manuscript (in electronic and printed form) for Editorial Staff not later than in 1 month from the date of its receipt.

In case of positive reviews, but with any comments, ее the content of the review is sent to the author to remove comments. The article? sent to the authors for processing, should be returned in the revised form (2 copies) together with its original version as soon as possible with the corresponding letter, containing answers to all the comments, explains all the changes made in the article.

The article, delayed for more than 3 months or or requiring elaboration, is regarded as a new submission.

After returning the article, revised, on comments from reviewer, the manuscript is sent for retrial to the same reviewer.

In case of disagreement with the opinion of the reviewer the author has the right to give a reasoned response to the editors. The article can be directed to re-review to the same or another reviewer, or for discussion to the editorial staff for the final decision.

In the presence of arguments, indicating the unreasonableness of manuscript publication, the Editorial Staff decides to reject the article and sends to the author a reasoned refusal in the publication.

The term of consideration of manuscripts is not more than 3 months from the date of their receipt to the Editor.

The originals of reviews are stored in the Editors for 5 years from the date of publication and are available on request in accordance with the current legislation of the Russian Federation.

 

Indexation

Articles in "Journal of Anatomy and Histopathology" are indexed by several systems:

  • Russian Scientific Citation Index (RSCI) – a database, accumulating information on papers by Russian scientists, published in native and foreign titles. The RSCI project is under development since 2005 by “Electronic Scientific Library” foundation (elibrary.ru).
  • Google Scholar is a freely accessible web search engine that indexes the full text of scholarly literature across an array of publishing formats and disciplines. The Google Scholar index includes most peer-reviewed online journals of Europe and America's largest scholarly publishers, plus scholarly books and other non-peer reviewed journals.

Publishing Ethics

1. Editor Role and Responsibility 

Editorial Board bears responsibility for the publishing of submitted materials (other than promotional) in “Journal of Anatomy and Histopathology”. Therefore, Editorial Board is responsible for observance of ethical principles in regard to authors, readers, sponsor of research and publications, objects of research, reviewers.

1.1 Editorial Responsibility to the Authors

1.1.1 The Editorial Board has the right to accept or reject manuscripts submitted for publication, taking into consideration reviewers’ report on relevance, originality and validity of information contained in the manuscript, its relevance to the remit of the Journal and Policy of Ethical Standards;

1.1.2 Reviewing is conducted according to the procedure adopted in the Journal;

– procedure for reviewing manuscripts submitted for publication is available at http://anatomy.elpub.ru/jour/pages/view/information;

– the members of the Editorial Board may not be interested in acceptance or rejection of the manuscript; in case of abuse of position, a member of the Editorial Board is disqualified and the author is offered written apologies;

– manuscripts are accepted only if there is sufficient evidence in favor of their publication; manuscripts are rejected only if there is sufficient evidence in favor of their rejection;

– authors are notified of the reasons for rejection; they are sent recommendations on revising the manuscript;

1.1.3 A copy of the review is send to the author on request; it can be also sent to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation on request therefore;

1.1.4 In the case the author disagrees with the reviewer(s) he/she may seek further review;

1.1.5 The final decision on manuscript publication rests with the Editorial Board; it is recorded in the minutes of the board meeting;

1.1.6 Authors may appeal acceptance/rejection of their manuscript by the Editorial Board;

1.1.8 The Editorial Board ensure copyright compliance when considering applications for publication.

1.1.9 The Editorial Board may retract from publication any published article in case some facts unknown in the course of review are disclosed.

1.2 Editorial Responsibility to the Reader

1.2.1 The Editorial Board ensures readers that all the information published in the Journal is reliable, accurate, impartial and not biased by any interests of advertisers or other organizations;

1.2.2 The Editorial Board provides readers with information about the authors of the articles published in the Journal and institutions where the research was conducted;

1.2.3 The Editorial Board informs readers about the participation of commercial organizations and their role in research and/or publications, and about any other conflicts of interest, which may affect research results;

1.2.4 The Editorial Board considers readers’ comments and suggestions, which can help to improve the quality of the Journal; issues of concern from the readers may be published in “Letters to the Editor”;

1.2.5 The Editorial Board considers readers’ complaints about the materials published in the Journal and informs readers about the measures taken;

1.2.6 The Editorial Board publishes corrections, clarifications, retractions and apologies when needed;

1.2.7 The Editorial Board takes measures to correct or remove all errors if detected;

1.2.8 The Editorial Board must do everything possible to prevent compromise of intellectual and ethical standards;

1.2.9 The Editorial Board is not responsible for the content of announcements and promotional materials published in the Journal.

1.3 Editorial Responsibility to the Objects of Research 

1.3.1 The Editorial Board is guided by WMA Declaration of Helsinki - Ethical Principles for Medical Research Involving Human Subjects, adopted in 1964 and revised in 2013 on the 64th Congress of WMA General Assembly (7th revision);

1.3.2 The Editorial Board consults Dispute Commission report on the conduct of the trial if needed.

1.4 Editorial Responsibility to Organizations Sponsoring Research and Publications 

1.4.1 The Editorial Board shall publish information about business organizations supporting research and/or publication.

1.5 Responsibility to Reviewers

1.5.1 The Editorial Board provides reviewer(s) with guidelines on their reports and a list of issues, which must be covered during the review process;

1.5.2 The Editorial Board guarantees objectivity and impartiality of the reviewers’ work, identifies cases of breach of law and takes measures to eliminate them;

1.5.3 The Editorial Board draws conclusions concerning acceptance/rejection of the manuscript on the basis of the reviewers’ report;

1.5.4 The process of one-sided blind review is accepted in the Journal; editorial board prefers that reviewers remain anonymous throughout the review process;

1.5.5 Reviewer(s) must disclose to editors any conflicts of interest.

2. Authors Rights and Responsibilities

2.1 Submitting the manuscript for publication to “Journal of Anatomy and Histopathology” the authors confirm that the publication is drawn in accordance with the Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted, available at: http://anatomy.elpub.ru/jour/manager/files/docs/author-guidelines.pdf;

2.2 Author(s) must observe the legislation of the Russian Federation;

2.3 Author(s) shall be aware that the article may be rejected in the following cases: the publication does not meet the Requirements for the Manuscripts Submitted; the author refuses editors’ recommendations to revise the manuscript; the study violates WMA Declaration of Helsinki - Ethical Principles for Medical Research Involving Human Subjects; the manuscript contains plagiarism or false data; research results have already been published;

2.4 Author(s) must provide information about business organizations supporting research and/or publication, and any other conflicts of interest, which may have an impact on the content of the manuscript;

2.5 Author(s) have the right to appeal editorial decisions regarding the publication according to appeal mechanism.

3. Dispute Resolution Commission

A special Commission may be organized by the Editorial Board in order to resolve issues and complaints related to possible violations of ethical standards. Commission chairman and members are chosen from the Editorial Board by a vote of Editorial Board members. 4. Appeal Mechanism

Authors have the right to appeal editorial decisions on accepting/rejecting manuscripts.

4.1 In case of disagreement with the Editorial Board decision on acceptance/rejection of the manuscript the author may appeal to Dispute Resolution Commission in a written form, indicating the reasons for application.

4.2 Dispute Resolution Commission considers the author’s appeal.

4.3 Editorial Board may change its decision on acceptance/rejection of the manuscript in the following cases: author provided additional factual information, which was not taken into account during the primary review; author provided additional material to the manuscript, which was not taken into account during the primary review; author provided information on the conflict of interest, which was not available during primary review; author expresses his/her concern about biased reviews.

4.4 If there are sufficient grounds Dispute Resolution Commission brings forward a proposal to amend or uphold the initial decision on submission of the manuscript.

4.5 The Editorial Board may call for one more reviewer to make the final decision if necessary.

4.6 The Editorial Board makes a decision on acceptance or rejection of the manuscript based on the results of revision of the primary decision.

4.7 The decision of the Editorial Board on the results of revision of the primary decision is final and not subject to re-appeal.

5. Article Retraction

Retraction of already published article is an extreme measure. It is used in case when certain facts, which were not known during the review, are disclosed: breach of legislation and defamation; fraudulent or inaccurate use of data, especially those that may pose a health risk, textual borrowing more than 20%.

5.1 Article retraction may be initiated by author(s), reader(s), reviewer(s) and member(s) of the Editorial Board by written request to Dispute Resolution Commission.

5.2 Dispute Resolution Commission considers all requests received.

5.3 The decision on article retraction is made by Dispute Resolution Commission if there is sufficient evidence in favor of retraction.

5.4 Dispute Resolution Commission should notify the initiator of the article retraction on his/her results of consideration of the request in the written form.

5.5 If the Commission decides to retract the article, the Journal publishes information on article retraction, indicating article metadata.

5.6 Information on retraction (including the reasons for retraction) is sent to the database where the Journal is indexed.

Publication in Journal of Anatomy and Histopathologyis free of charge for all the authors.

The journal doesn't have any Arcticle processing charges.

Disclosure and Conflict of Interest

Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in a reviewer’s own research without the express written consent of the author. Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage.

Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the papers.

 

Plagiarism detection

"Journal of Anatomy and Histopathology" use native russian-language plagiarism detection software Antiplagiat to screen the submissions. If plagiarism is identified, the COPE guidelines on plagiarism will be followed.

 

Preprint and postprint Policy

Prior to acceptance and publication in "Journal of Anatomy and Histopathology", authors may make their submissions available as preprints on personal or public websites.

As part of submission process, authors are required to confirm that the submission has not been previously published, nor has been submitted. After a manuscript has been published in "Journal of Anatomy and Histopathology" we suggest that the link to the article on journal's website is used when the article is shared on personal or public websites.

Glossary (by SHERPA)

Preprint - In the context of Open Access, a preprint is a draft of an academic article or other publication before it has been submitted for peer-review or other quality assurance procedure as part of the publication process. Preprints cover initial and successive drafts of articles, working papers or draft conference papers.
 
Postprint - The final version of an academic article or other publication - after it has been peer-reviewed and revised into its final form by the author. As a general term this covers both the author's final version and the version as published, with formatting and copy-editing changes in place.
